Nexus 5X Hands On AH 25

One of the big new features of the new Nexus’ that launched this week, is the USB Type-C port. It’s exciting for a few reasons. One, USB Type-C is reversible so it can be upside down and still work. Two, it should give us faster speeds (except Google used USB 2.0 here instead of USB 3.0). However, changing the port in which we charge our phone is actually a big deal. This means you can’t use the charger that’s in your car, or the dock you have on your bedside table. Not to mention plug it into your laptop for anything at all.
However, Google was nice enough to include a USB Type-C to Standard-A plug and cable in the Huawei-made Nexus 6P. Thanks, Google. However with the Nexus 5X, that’s not true. With the LG-made Nexus 5X, we have just the USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable here, unfortunately. This could change before and wouldn’t be the first time. Now what this means is that you cannot plug this into your normal wall outlets that you probably have all over the house, your office and your car. This also means that if you want to plug your Nexus 5X into your laptop to do some debugging, or even unlock the bootloader, well you’re stuck.
Luckily, Amazon has a bunch of micro USB to USB Type-C adapters available. With a few at $11 and some even lower than that. At least you can pick up one of those and still connect your brand new Nexus 5X to your laptop and unlock that bootloader if you so wish to do so. Or doing something as simple as flashing a factory image. So once again, Amazon to the rescue.
Even if you aren’t getting the Nexus 5X, it’s a good idea to pick up a few of these for the Nexus 6P, OnePlus Two or the ZUK Z1. USB Type-C is the future, so it’s best to grab these adapters before their prices go up. You can grab one from Amazon now for just $6, so it’s time to stock up. And if you have Amazon Prime you can get it pretty quickly.
