It's somewhat rare to see a Korean guy dating someone outside their race. Some believe that it's because Korean guys are against interracial dating or that they are only attracted to other Koreans. However, this is only a misconception—the truth is, Korean men are for the most part, shy! They are harder to approach because of their timid nature, and even if they are interested in you, they may hesitate to show any signs of interest.

So what can you do? If you ever notice a Korean guy that you're interested in, don't be afraid to make the first move! And if everything works out and you happen to be one of the lucky few to date a Korean, you will see that there is so much more beyond their timid, outer-shell. Now, before you go out and snag yourself a Korean guy, here are some things you should know.

1. They love being the oppa

One thing all Korean men have in common is the fact that they love being the oppa. They will even refer to themselves as oppa in third person saying things like "oppa will take care of you" or "oppa loves you." Korean guys love leading the way and they will appreciate you even more if you let them take on this role.

2. They like to match

From matching tees to matching phone cases, your Korean boyfriend will most likely present you with some type of matching accessory and will expect you to use them. Korean guys aren't afraid to show that they have someone special in their life. In fact, they love to flaunt it!

3. They celebrate a lot more holidays

It is common for Koreans to celebrate their 1 month, 100th day, 200th day, 300th day, and 1 year anniversaries. There are also special holidays in Korea, dedicated specifically for couples on the 14th of every month. Some of these these holidays include valentine's day, white day, rose day, kiss day, and photo day—just to name a few. Do some research and keep these holidays in mind. He may appreciate the fact you are willing to celebrate these special days with him!

4. They're great at communicating

Korean guys are great at keeping in touch. Maybe too great. Korean guys will call and text you all throughout the day, everyday. It is normal for them to do this and they will expect you to do the same. If you're not used to this type of communication, it might be a little overwhelming at first.

5. They get jealous

One of the hardest things to get used to while dating a Korean guy is their low tolerance for opposite gender relationships. Most Korean guys like to believe that men and women, "can't be just friends." While it doesn't mean that you can't have any other guy friends, you may need to "reassure" him here and there that he's the only one for you.

6. They take care of themselves

One of the best things about Korean men is that they dress really well. From nice clothing to perfect hair, they really enjoy taking care of themselves to look good for you. You should also make it an effort to look good for them too!

7. They love feeding you

Food is a very important part of Korean culture. In Korea, food is offered as the main event for any type of celebration such as passing an exam, doing well in school, or getting a new job. Sharing food is considered to be one of the ultimate sign of affection which shows in traditional Korean style of dining. Banchan, or side dishes, is offered at almost any Korean cuisine and is shared by everyone at the table. One of the most common questions a Korean guy will ask you is, "Have you eaten yet?" You should take this as a sign of affection. Nothing makes him more happy than to be able to share a great meal with you. So practice your chopsticks and learn your kimchi. He will appreciate it!
